Post Zoo Field Trip Activities
| Discuss what animals the students observed and the different animal colors and animal coverings. Make a list of them and have students draw their favorite animal. After drawing their favorite animal, have the students tell what animal group it belongs to and why. Students can then hang up their pictures around the classroom by categories. For example, all bird pictures can be flying around the chalkboard, while all the reptile pictures can be hung low on the wall. |

| Review adaptation (a characteristic of a living thing that helps it survive in its environment). Ask students to brainstorm a list of animal adaptations they saw on their field trip. Have students sort the adaptations into categories (e.g., eating, moving, defense). Ask students to think of adaptations which plants have for survival, then sort the adaptations into categories (e.g., reproduction, defense, water conservation). | ||
| Discuss how habitats, like animals, can become endangered. What happens to animals that live in endangered habitats? Brainstorm ways students can help protect local habitats. Choose an idea from the list and take action! | ||
| Reproduce and distribute a discounted Child's Admission Coupon to each student for use on his/her next visit. (This coupon is not valid with the Group Rate.) | ||
| The
Zoo is a wonderful educational facility where students learn about
rare and endangered species of plants and animals, as well as about
protecting their habitats, and then students may begin to understand
and appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of the world around them. To help support your Zoo, all of the animals are available for adoption and the educational signs are available for sponsorship. The Adopt-An-Animal and Zoo Sign Support programs are tax-deductible and your donations fund upkeep, medical/health care, and exhibit enhancement for the animals. Ask your group if they would like to Adopt-An-Animal or sponsor an Educational Sign. Information and forms are available online or at the Zoo. |
